Kennedy

Kennedy
Kennedy m
Irish, Scottish, and English: Anglicized form of Irish Gaelic Cinnéidigh, a traditional name composed of the elements ceann head + éidigh ugly. In the Scottish Highlands this form has also been used as an Anglicized equivalent of the Scottish Gaelic name UARRAIG (SEE Uarraig), apparently because that given name was common in kindreds surnamed Kennedy (Irish Ó Cinnéidigh). In recent years it has sometimes been chosen in the English-speaking world in honour of the assassinated American president John F. Kennedy (1917–63) and his brother Robert (1925–68).
